Set the Scene: Transform Your Living Room into a Barre Studio Haven

Are you ready to turn your living room into your very own Barre haven? We’re a gang of home workouters now and it’s only right to create a dreamy Barre atmosphere for the best workout experience, bringing a slice of the in-person studio magic to your home. Here’s how we’re going to do it.

Define your space

First things first, designate a specific area for your workouts. Clear the clutter and create an inviting space that allows for movement and flexibility. It only needs to be the size of a yoga mat but you’ll need enough space overhead for full arm extensions and enough space at the sides not to tickle your toes on precious ornaments.

Gather your equipment

Gather your Barre essentials! Your ‘Barre’ can be anything from a sturdy chair, a chest of drawers, or even a mantelpiece. Ideally you’re looking for a supportive surface that comes to a round belly button height. Anything lower can put a wee bit of unnecessary pressure on your lower back. You’ll need a mat for floor-based exercises, light dumbbells (anything from 1 to 3kgs) as well as a looped resistance band, a long resistance band and our trusty Pilates ball (my favourite piece of equipment!). Not totally necessary but great to have are ankle weights (anything from 0.5 to 1.5kgs) and sliders. Having your equipment readily available will streamline your transitions and keep you flowing through the workout.

Dress the part

Your favourite workout attire will help you feel like a true Barre enthusiast. Not only will it help set the mood, but it will also make you feel more confident and ready to get started. I'd recommend anything that's similar to what you'd wear for yoga or Pilates. Comfy leggings and a top which you can move in. You don't want to wear any shoes and only wear socks if they have the sticky bottoms so you don't slip - personally I love doing it in bare feet! If you feel comfortable then wearing a figure hugging top will really help me give you feedback on your posture and core engagement in the live sessions. My favourite brands for great leggings are Varley, Alo Yoga, Sweaty Betty and Tala.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

If you can, I’d LOVE you to add a mirror to your space. It makes such a difference in helping you check your form and be much more intentional with your movements, keeping an eye on your posture and technique.

Bringing the studio home isn’t just about the physical setup; it’s about creating an environment that inspires and motivates. With a touch of creativity and dedication, your living room can transform into your very own Barre sanctuary and become everything you need to see real results from home workouts. With the January challenge starting in just a few days, now’s the time to get your Barre haven ready ❤️
