Meet Tania: Our Live Class Addict

A retired teacher, busy tutor, and mum of three, Tania first discovered Barre through a local gym—and instantly fell in love with the feel-good burn. Since then, she’s built a routine that works perfectly around her busy evenings, carving out early mornings just for her. From leg days to meditation stretches, Barre has become more than just a workout—it’s a way of life.

1. Tell us a little about yourself! What’s your daily life like?
Hi! I’m a mum of three, a retired teacher, and currently working as a tutor—so life is definitely a juggle! My mornings are relatively relaxed once I’ve got my youngest out the door for school. I usually mix house admin with a dog walk before diving into work, which typically starts around 3:30pm and can go on until about 9pm.


2. What made you decide to try Barre, and how did you find The Barre Coach?
After I retired from teaching due to ill health, I decided to finally invest a little time in myself. My local gym was called Raise The Barre, so I gave it a try—and was instantly hooked! I loved how the workouts targeted my legs, glutes, and core. As someone who’d describe herself as pear-shaped, it felt like exactly what I needed.

I was lucky enough to build a lovely Barre community there for a couple of years before Covid paused everything. Like many, we moved online—and because we already knew each other, it was easy to keep going.

But after lockdown, when in-person classes resumed, I realised they just didn’t work for me anymore. I needed something online and flexible—so I turned to Google and found Gen! Her online classes are honestly next-level.


3. How do Barre classes fit into your weekly routine and how do you stay motivated?
I’m terrible at doing on-demand workouts (even though the app has an amazing library!), so for me it’s all about the live classes. The 7:30am sessions fit perfectly with my routine. By 9am, I’ve moved my body and feel fantastic for the rest of the day.


4. What’s been the biggest change you’ve noticed since starting Barre?
Definitely the shape of my legs and bum! But what really sets Gen apart is her focus on diaphragmatic breathing. It’s essential for my health, and the way she consistently cues us to breathe deeply during each movement makes such a difference.


5. Do you have a favourite class or type of workout?
I love leg workouts! I’ve also developed a new appreciation for core work—even though I’ve never had stomach issues—and I’m loving the weight-bearing exercises, which I know are so important at my age. And of course, the stretch and meditation classes are a dream… they’re good for everyone!


6. What’s your workout “must-have” (favourite leggings, playlist, or post-class snack)?
Music of any kind! It makes all the difference.


7. What would you say to someone thinking about joining The Barre Coach?
OMG—do it!! You won’t regret it. It’s honestly become a way of life for me, and I hope to be doing every single live class for as long as I can!
