Spring 2022 Barre Retreat

Three sun-drenched days in the most beautifully tranquil retreat location where both new memories and friendships were made. Our Spring retreat brought us all a much needed chance to put the brakes on normal life and take some time to relax and reset. Read on to discover everything we got up to!

Tuesday - the guests arrived at our beautiful retreat house!

Our guests travelled to our beautiful retreat location in Malpas, Cheshire and arrived on a gorgeous sunny afternoon. Each bedroom was the height of countryside luxury with king-sized beds, robes hanging in the wardrobes and beautiful views of the surrounding grounds of the house that could be seen from the windows. Each guest had a selection of gorgeous welcome gifts waiting for them including a pair of Barre socks and a £15 voucher from Sweaty Betty, a collection of herbal tea and balm from the Breathe & POW ranges by Lab Tonica, a whole selection of self care goodies from Nourish Me Wellness and lovely soap and hand cream from Institut Karité. Our guests arrived from 12pm and had the chance to settle into their home for the week, meet the other guests and soak up all the retreat excitement.

We got to know each other over a delicious lunch served by Sophie & Paul, founders of Florence Road Events. We had the tastiest loaded hummus with roasted mushrooms and tenderstem broccoli, served alongside homemade sourdough focaccia. After lunch we headed to the cosy living room for a workshop on The Core Pillars To Finding Balance: Navigating Gut Health, Hormones & Mindset lead by the very lovely Becks from Balance by Becks.

We spent the rest of the afternoon working through a 75 minute introduction to Barre in the beautiful barn space. We used this time to work on all the foundational positions and movements that make up a Barre class and spent a while chatting about breathing and finding great core engagement. Guests then had the chance to relax and enjoy the indoor pool and sauna before dinner.

Dinner that evening was a delicious green risotto served with roasted beetroot, tahini, lemon zest, paprika, almonds and sultanas served alongside a leafy green salad. Dessert was a yummy chocolate hazelnut raw slice followed by a round of peppermint teas and then everyone was ready for bed!

Wednesday - the perfect sunny day for a hike and a picnic!

Waking up to the sun rising over the house, guests enjoyed a blueberry smoothie before joining me in the barn for a progressive beginners Barre session. We progressed all the movements we'd worked on the previous day and got all the guests feeling more confident with their technique.

After the class, Sophie & Paul served the most delicious turmeric pancakes with a seasonal fruit compote and a date caramel sauce for breakfast. Every mouthful was absolutely delicious. We then got ready to head out for a walk along the Sandstone Trail to discover some of the most beautiful views in Cheshire. We started off heading towards Raw Head, the highest point on the Sandstone Trail and then made our way to Bickerton Hill, past Maiden Castle, through Brown Knowl village and finishing back at the cars, 10.5km later! Soph had a made us a yummy cauliflower caesar salad with pickled onions and crispy broad beans which we sat and ate at one of the highest points on the walk with beautiful views over the Cheshire countryside.

We then headed home for a candlelit stretch followed by a deep relaxation lead by one of our very lovely retreat guests. Soph and Paul rustled up another delicious dinner of roasted pumpkins on a bed of tahini yoghurt served with a pea and broad bean fregola. For dessert we had a blueberry and cashew cheesecake!

Thursday - jewellery making, cooking lessons and pamper treatments

Thursday was another beautiful day which we spent at the house taking part in different workshops! We started the day with a delicious green smoothie before heading to the barn for a 60 minute Barre & Stretch session. Breakfast was a savoury treat with eggs served alongside wilted spinach, roasted tomatoes and herby garlicky mushrooms.

After brekkie Ellie from Eleanor Jewellery Design arrived to set up a beautiful handmade jewellery workshop. Ellie showed us all the amazing pieces that make up her collections and then demonstrated how to make her Emilia ring. It was such a wonderful way to switch off and get crafty. Taking something so beautiful home with us was the perfect cherry on top!

We had a tasty lunch of wild rice and broccoli with roasted red onions, kale, pear and walnuts while our rings spent some time in the polisher! After lunch some of our guests enjoyed treatments including manicures, massages and facials in the Coach House while the rest of us joined Sophie for a workshop on how to make raw energy balls.

We finished the day with a 30 minute Core & Stretch class as the sun set on the beautiful barn. Dinner this evening was a yummy combo of creamy celery chickpeas, roasted carrots with pesto and salsa and fresh greens.

Friday - a quick 30 minute HIIT session and the final brekkie

It was an early morning and an energising HIIT session to get the day started followed by our last brekkie of baked oats with a seasonal fruit compote. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect end to the week! After a round of goodbyes, everyone headed home feeling relaxed and recharged with new memories and new friends!

The winter months of January, February and March can always feel like a long start to the year but having this retreat to look forward to was the perfect transition into the warmer months of Spring. After a week of consistent Barre classes and trying all sorts of new dishes, our retreat guests returned home feeling inspired and motivated to keep up with everything they'd learned. Guests were straight back to our live Barre classes the next day and experimented with all sorts of cooking over the weekend including making their own green juices and energy balls!

Here's just a snippet of the amazing feedback we've had so far;
